The New Day have become one of the hottest acts of the past year. Xavier Woods, Kofi Kingston and Big E have really clicked as a unit and have become one of the most entertaining things on WWE television (in my opinion at least). They always seem to toe the line of what is appropriate for their PG audience. It leads me to question how much creative freedom they have with Vince McMahon and co. In an interview with IGN, Xavier Woods spoke on a wide variety of topics, including their freedom with Vince and the WWE brass backstage
On how much freedom the New Day has when it comes to their promos and their adult jokes:
“It’s to a point now where we kind of have a little bit more trust than we did when we started. And they know we’re not going to go out there and do something that’s going to mess up a sponsorship or anything like that. Things we do are going to do are going to be in-bounds for our PG parameters. Still be fine for kids, but then have something that’s a little bit for adults. We liken it to Shrek: we’re in PG parameters but there’s jokes in there for adults if you’re paying attention. But they’ve kind of given us leeway in the sense that we have gone out there and are just having a good time and getting people–luckily–into what we’re doing, because you know it’s always hit or miss with the entertainment industry. But we’ve been lucky enough to kind of hit a pretty good stride right now, and so the company’s been pretty good to us for that”
Interesting to hear that they have a lot of freedom. In a show that gets criticized for being too scripted, I think the New Day are doing it right and going out there and having fun, without too many guidelines.
I agree. They really seem like they are having fun and actually enjoying being The New Day. They are very funny and all 3 work well together in the ring.its gonna be a sad day when they split up.
