We have made it through the 80’s, 90’s, and early 00’s and now entering 2010’s? Is that how that’s said? I don’t know. I know for sure I watched this Summerslam live and I’m pretty sure the Nexus is involved. RIGHT? It’s funny I saw the WWE release a statistic that Cena is on a major Summerslam losing streak and not sure how he will overcome the odds against Corbin. I’m pretty sure if he just watches back this Summerslam or reads my review he can figure it out. Dolph Ziggler appears to be opening Summerslam AGAIN in another IC title match.
Dolph Ziggler vs. Kofi Kingston (Intercontinental Title Match): This match should be fantastic as both men are great workers in the ring. I’m not sure if this is an opinion worth giving but I’m writing and you’re reading so here ya go, I don’t dig Matt Striker. Kofi has the upper hand for just a few seconds before Ziggler took control. Yes, I’m also going to confirm an opinion I had from the last Summerslam and that’s Ziggler is more Brian Pillman (early) than Mr. Perfect. If Pillman oozed natural heel charisma his name would be Ziggler. Kofi finally gets some offense in until Ziggler locks in his patented sleeper hold. The Nexus runs down and destroys both me and this match wasn’t bad however I like a finish especially to an opener. I will say though good touch by WWE making the Nexus a rogue group and doing whatever they want. Hopefully they don’t get derailed too soon you know by a super human man that destroys everything he touches.
Melina vs. Alicia Fox (Divas Championship Match): Good god save me. Where are you Y2J? Let’s see if this works Save_Me_Y2J…. nope still here watching this. I don’t mind the title being called the Divas title here honestly. The women were positioned here as wrestlers second and entertainers first. I take back everything I’ve ever said bad about Matt Striker he reference Blazye vs. Nakano at Summerslam ’94 which if you haven’t watched then go watch now. Actually would you all mind if I went and watched that again instead of this? Alicia takes a stiff shot to the nose and I think Melina has banged up her knee. This match has some AWFUL psychology as Fox continues to work the WRONG BODY PART and Melina is left trying to sell it. Melina wins and so do the fans because this match is now over. After the match LayCool come out and setup the next feud for Melina.
The Big Show vs. Straight Edge Society: The end of a great stable that never gets the credit it deserves. It was kind of 2010 version of the Flock from WCW and that’s ok. It took some mid-level guys and put them with a fantastic promo and in ring guy and tried to elevate them by association. At this stage in his career I actually like the Big Show being booked as a monster. This match is kind of a mess as its tornado rules and everyone is kind of all over the place. During the end of the match Punk walks out on Mercury and Gallows and Big Show hits the chokeslam for the win.
The Miz is out next and says he will join team WWE against the Nexus. He cuts the best promo of his career at this point and possibly of all of 2010. Honestly this PPV promo is what sold me 100% on the Miz being my guy going forward.
Randy Orton vs. Sheamus (WWE Title Match): Man Orton has had some AWESOME Summerslam matches at least on paper, Undertaker, Hogan, Benoit, and Cena x 2. Now he goes in with an EXTREMELY underappreciated talent in Sheamus. We get some good back and forth early and man I hope Sheamus’s strikes don’t hurt as much as they look like they do. Lots of clothesline, kicks and punches early in this match. We now go to the outside where Sheamus slams Orton into the barricade. Orton now gets the upper hand on the outside and throws Sheamus into the barricade. Sheamus now brings them back in and has the upperhand and goes for a couple of covers for two counts. Sheamus gets upset and brings a chair into the ring and just before he hits Orton with it the referee grabs the chair. My goodness why do we have to over book Orton matches? Sheamus hits the ref and gets disqualified so he keeps the title and after the match we see an RKO.
Kane vs. Rey Mysterio (World Title Match): Kane comes to the ring with a casket in tow and that’s a pretty cool visual. The match begins and Kane tries to overpower Mysterio early however Mysterio goes for the legs of Kane. PSYCHOLOGY! Kane gets the upper hand though and we are in full David/Goliath mode here. Kane puts the beat down on Myterio for most of this match. You know I will say Kane even thirteen years after his debut still has an aura about him that’s cool. We get some action on the outside and then both men fighting to get back into the ring. Kane reverses not one but not 619 attempts in this match. Mi Match and Kane grabs a mic telling Myterio that he will make him pay for hurting his brother. We get some brawling by the casket and guess who’s in the casket.. No seriously just guess. Undertaker comes out of the casket This match ends in a no contest as Undertaker chokes Mysterio and then Kane ends up tombstoning Undertaker.
Team WWE vs. Team Nexus (7-7 Elmination Match): Nexus comes to the ring first and you know they took a collection of rookie nobodies and they are main eventing Summerslam. Kudos WWE!Up next we have John Cena and Edge, the rest of the team comes out however Cena says he has found someone other than Miz for the final spot and its DANIEL BRYAN! Is Daniel Bryan the best underdog story in the history of wrestling? This match starts with a brawl and Darren Young and Daniel Bryan start the match. So just to catch everyone up Team WWE consists of Cena, Edge, Jericho, Morrison, Bret Hart, R-Truth and Daniel Bryan. The match breaks down again and the entire Nexus is outside the ring and team WWE is standing tall. Darren Young is eliminated quickly. We have a series of tags and quick offense from both teams you know it is seven on seven. Skip Sheffield (Ryback) eliminates John Morrison (Jannetty to Miz’s HBK). Sheffield now with a big clothesline that eliminates R-Truth and Sheffield looks like a monster. We get some more tags and quick offense until Hart uses a chair and gets disqualified. We get a code breaker/ spear combination for the pin on Sheiffield who’s finally eliminated. We get some more hot moves and Jericho locks in the Walls of Jericho on Otunga and he’s eliminated. I’ll say this it’s hard to spotlight people in these kinds of matches however Skip Sheffield got some shine from this match. Edge then gets eliminated when he and Cena have a disagreement and Edge ends up knocking Cena out. Jericho then attacks him on the outside and rolls Cena back in the ring. Bryan gets a hot tag and makes Slater tap out. Miz hits Bryan with the briefcase which allows Barrett to get the win. John Cena then disposes of both Gabriel and Barrett after getting DESTROYED on the outside of the ring to be the sole survivor. CenaWinsLOL is this where this was created?

Congratulations Summerslam 1993 you are no longer the worst Summerslam in the history of Summerslams. This PPV was awful and I’m not typically a negative guy. When in doubt for match of the night go with the main event or well you know the other three singles matches had shit finishes, the womens match was a disaster and then you had a Big Show handicap match. I have no other choice BUT the main event. It’s awful though EASILY the worst card ever. Until Summerslam ’11 be awesome.
