10) The “Tell Me You Didn’t Just Say That” Insult of the Year Award
– Our Winner: Samoa Joe roasts Jeff Hardy (Smackdown – January 29th, 2019)
My pick for the insult of the year comes from Samoa Joe. He cut an amazing promo on the January 29th edition of Smackdown. He roasted Randy Orton, Jeff Hardy, Mustafa Ali, and AJ Styles.
Joe’s biggest burn was towards Jeff Hardy. Here is what Joe said:
‘Hey [Jeff], do me a favor, why don’t you act like this is an AA meeting and you shut your mouth when I am sharing with the group.’
Here is the full promo:
Joe is a savage.
9) WWE Rivalry Of The Year Award
– Our Winner: Kofi Kingston vs Daniel Bryan
After thinking about it, my pick for the rivalry of the year award in WWE is Daniel Bryan vs Kofi Kingston.
To me, Kofi’s rise to the WWE Championship was the best storyline of the year. WWE did a great job of building this storyline up from the Elimination Chamber PPV to Wrestlemania 35. Kofi just kept gaining more and more momentum and fan support. Eventually, Kofimania took over and he won the WWE Title. Bryan played the role of the villain perfectly and he was in the complete opposite role as to what we saw from him at Wrestlemania 30.
The best part of this storyline is that it wasn’t supposed to ever happen. Kofi got lucky that Mustafa Ali suffered an injury before the Elimination Chamber PPV. That led to Kofi entering the Elimination Chamber match in his place and the rest is history.
8) Most Improved Male WWE Superstar Of The Year Award
– Our Winner: Erick Rowan
For me, the most improved male wrestler of 2019 is Erick Rowan. I will be honest and say that I didn’t see much in Rowan for many years. He worked mostly as a tag team wrestler and I always saw Luke Harper as the more talented one in the group. Rowan has been pushed as a singles guy for a good chunk of 2019 and I think that he has done a great job at proving people like me wrong.
Rowan has proved that he can put on solid matches. He is actually much better in the ring than I gave him credit for. He has also proven that he can be a monster heel in WWE.
To me, Rowan has improved a ton and I am excited to see what 2020 has in store for him.
