Now that 2019 is coming to an end, we have put together our own version of awards to celebrate some awesome stuff that happened in WWE this year. We tried to use similar awards to what the Slammy’s had in the past. Note: This only includes the WWE main roster (you can read our 2019 NXT Awards here). Below are our WWE Slammy Awards 2019 winners.
WWE Slammy Awards 2019 Winners.
13) WWE Feel-Good Moment Of The Year Award
— Our Winner: Roman Reigns Returns From His Battle With Cancer
There were a lot of great WWE moments that happened in 2019. That includes Kofi Kingston’s magical run to winning the WWE Championship and Women main eventing Wrestlemania for the first time ever. Nothing though compares to the feel-good moment of Roman Reigns’ return.
On the February 25th edition of Monday Night RAW, Roman made his first appearance on RAW in several months. He told the WWE Universe that his cancer is officially in remission and he is back. He received a massive ovation from the crowd and it was an incredible moment.
I remember watching from home with a huge smile on my face. Even if you hate the Roman Reigns character, this had to have made you smile. Roman faced the toughest battle of his life and he survived.
12) WWE Rookie Of The Year Award
— Our Winner: Ricochet
Ricochet made his WWE main roster debut back in February. He has gone on to have a great first year on the WWE main roster. He is my pick for the 2019 WWE rookie of the year award.
Ricochet has put on some fun matches throughout the year. He has also consistently remained on WWE television, which is not very common these days for newer talents. It feels like he is only going to continue to climb the ladder on Monday Night RAW.
I can’t think of anyone who had a better year than Ricochet on the main roster. Aleister Black is the only person who I can think of but he has not been featured as much as Ricochet. As a result, Ricochet is my pick for the newcomer of the year award.
11) Best Original WWE Network Show Award
— Our Winner: Stone Cold’s ‘Broken Skull Session’ With The Undertaker
After Survivor Series this year, WWE aired an interview between Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Undertaker. This was for Steve Austin’s new Broken Skull Sessions show on the WWE Network.
This was awesome because we rarely get to see The Undertaker do these types of interviews. Interviews where he is out-of-character and giving us a better insight into his life. The Deadman has done such a great job of protecting his character over the years that it has made fans hungry for more information about him away from the ring. This interview was perfect for fans like me who wanted to hear more from him outside of his usual character.
Austin and ‘Taker had a great conversation and we learned a lot about both guys. I loved it and I can’t wait to see more of these types of interviews.
