2017 WWE PPV Of The Year Award

IWNerd’s Pick: Royal Rumble

• The Royal Rumble was my favorite Pay-Per-View event of 2017. The incredible match between John Cena and AJ Styles is one of the biggest reasons why. This was a match of the year candidate and the best of their 3 matches against one another. The event also featured an awesome no-disqualification match between Roman Reigns and Kevin Owens for the WWE Universal Championship. This one kind of goes under the radar because of how good Styles vs Cena was. Pair that with the Royal Rumble match and I was pretty much entertained throughout. It gets my vote for PPV of the year. Wrestlemania 33 was a close second for me.

Michael’s Pick: NXT TakeOver: Chicago

• TakeOver: Chicago was nothing more than a masterpiece! This PPV provided us with non-stop action, incredible matches & an ending that left us speechless. Tyler Bate vs Pete Dunne for the UK Championship was considered the Match Of The Year & this match alone could of sold this PPV. The Women’s Championship match with Asuka, Ember Moon & Ruby Riott proved why the NXT Women’s Division are definitely the stars of the main roster’s tomorrow. An important part of having a great PPV is sending it home in the main event & they delivered on all aspects. Authors Of Pain vs DIY in a Ladder Match was an instant classic with so many spots I lost count. The shocking ending of this PPV when DIY broke up was a cliffhanger that had us rushing to next week’s NXT show. Now when was the last time a RAW & SDLive PPV made you want to do that?

2017 WWE Match of The Year Award

IWNerd’s Pick: Tyler Bate vs Pete Dunne (NXT TakeOver: Chicago)

• My decision was between 3 matches: Bate vs Dunne at Takeover Chicago. Reigns vs Strowman vs Lesnar vs Joe at Summerslam. John Cena vs AJ Styles at the Royal Rumble. I decided to go with my gut and choose Tyler Bate vs. Pete Dunne at NXT TakeOver: Chicago. This match was incredible from start to finish. These guys told an incredible story inside of the ring and surpassed their previous match in the WWE UK Tournament finals. Both guys proved that they are the future of WWE and made many new fans on that night.

Michael’s Pick:  Tyler Bate vs Pete Dunne (NXT TakeOver: Chicago)

• I did not watch but the UK Tournament but this match made me a believer in the incredible talent that is the UK Division. Dunne & Bate put on an instant classic that could have main evented this PPV. The display of Power, Technique, Cruiserweight agility made us believe that these 20’something-year-old superstars had been wrestling for years. So many spots & false finishers that had everyone at the edge of their seats. If this is what the upcoming talent in the WWE is capable of, then WWE is in great hands”
