Why WWE Moved John Cena To Monday Night RAW

On the RAW after Summerslam, WWE fans saw John Cena switch over from Smackdown Live to the red brand. He teamed up with Roman Reigns in the main event to defeat the Miz and Samoa Joe.

Cena is billed as a ‘free agent’ in WWE and is able to switch from brand to brand as he pleases in terms of storyline. Here are some rumors on why WWE wanted him on RAW.

According to a report from Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, the reason why WWE moved John Cena to RAW is because Vince McMahon wants to elevate Roman Reigns and several other RAW stars.

Here is an excerpt from the report:

“John Cena is back on Monday nights on the USA Network for one reason: Vince McMahon wants Cena to elevate and give the rub to Roman Reigns. The prevailing factor behind Cena’s move to Raw is all about his opponents. The decision was not made solely because Cena is going to draw ratings, but rather because of who Cena is going to draw ratings with”

The report mentions building to a Reigns vs Cena match eventually. It also mentions stars like Braun Strowman, Samoa Joe and Elias potentially working with Cena.

The RAW after Summerslam certainly teased a future Reigns vs Cena match. It will be interesting to see what happens over the next few months and who Cena faces. Plenty of fresh opponents for him to wrestle now that he is on RAW.
