Payback 2017 takes place this Sunday night and will be the first pay-per-view event since Wrestlemania 33. The event will allow WWE to tie up their loose ends on their feuds. This includes: Randy Orton v Bray Wyatt and Kevin Owens vs Chris Jericho, who are now all on separate brands.
Here is the latest on this Sunday’s PPV.
According to some rumors circulating , there is a very strong possibility that Payback will see no titles changing hands.
First, let’s take a look at what is NOT being defended at the event:
- WWE Universal Title – Brock is not defending his title at the event.
- WWE Championship – It appears as if the House of Horrors match between Bray and Randy is non-title.
- WWE Intercontinental Title – Dean Ambrose hasn’t been announced for a match at the event.
Now, let’s look at our options for potential title changes and why they probably won’t happen
Chris Jericho vs Kevin Owens for the WWE United States Championship.
- This one seems painfully obvious that Owens is retaining, considering that he already has a (title) match set up against AJ Styles next.
The Hardy Boyz vs Sheamus and Cesaro – RAW Tag Team Championships
- Would seem odd for WWE to take the titles off the Hardy Boyz already.
Bayley vs Alexa Bliss – RAW Women’s Championship
- While I can see Alexa winning, it would make her the first-ever RAW and Smackdown Women’s Champion in WWE history. This is an accolade that I think they are saving for Charlotte.
Austin Aries vs Neville – WWE Cruiserweight Championship
- This is the one that I think has the most potential to change hands. Still, Neville has been doing well as Champion and I can see him retaining with the help of his new ally: TJ Perkins.

We will have to wait and see what happens. As of right now, we don’t expect to see any titles change hands at the event. Reminder to always take rumors with a grain of salt.
