The Reaction Of WWE Stars About RAW On Christmas

News broke this week that WWE would be running live episodes of Monday Night RAW on both Christmas day (December 25th) and New Years day (January 1st). This has been a hot topic among fans as they debate if WWE stars should have the time off to be with their families or if fans will even watch the episodes.

How was the reaction of the WWE roster to the news?

Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscribe here), says that there was some unhappiness after the news broke about RAW being live on both Christmas Day and New Years day.

WWE typically taped the show ahead of time when it fell on Christmas Day or New Years Day.  As for Christmas, for the past several years the WWE roster would (usually) get Christmas Eve off and would always get Christmas Day off to be with their families. They wouldn’t start back up shows until December 26th. This year, there will be live shows on both December 25th (RAW) and December 26th (Smackdown).

It should also be noted that it appears like this isn’t WWE’s decision but the choice of the USA Network.

According to Meltzer, a lot of the families of wrestler’s got the news this week and didn’t know beforehand. As demonstrated by Matt Hardy’s wife Reby, many probably weren’t thrilled:

  1. I wonder how Reby would feel if she worked at a movie theatre Complex. they always release the big movie on Christmas day. meaning you would have to work on Christmas day.

NBA plays on Christmas day for 5 venues. which means Ticket Takers, Ushers, concessionaires have to work christmas day at 5 NBA Venues

if Christmas falls on a Saturday, Sunday or a Monday. there is always 2 NFL Games played that day which means just like 5 NBA venues. 2 NFL Venues have to work.

and oh yeah lets not forget all those employees at Gas Stations, Convenience Stores, and maybe some of the major Grocery store Chains who are also open on Christmas Eve & Christmas Day

And lets not forget that back in the Territory Days the for runners of WCW Ran 2 shows on Christmas Day. WCCW Ran Christmas Star Wars Mega Event on CHristmas Day, WWE Ran on Christmas day prior to 1984 (Sometimes doing double dips even), AWA also ran on Christmas days. a lot of Wrestling companies ran christmas day till 1990

TV Station News Crews have to work christmas day. and prior to automation of Radio Stations. Someone had to always be at the Radio Station on Christmas Day

while not to often but i had to work Christmas Day.

Some people are over reacting to this Live christmas Raw stuff. Because guess what since USA wants a Live raw that night. that means someone at NBC/Comcast is gonna have to be running the board in the usa network operations that night (Meaning they wont get Christmas nite with their family)

    • The movie theater doesn’t HAVE to be open on Christmas Day, the owners choose to be open.
NBA: Plays one game a week, has a six month off season and they make a lot more money than WWE stars do. NFL, same thing. Plus, they get their schedules months in advance and can plan accordingly.
Gas stations are a necessity, so are convenience stores to some extent. Grocery stores are usually not open.
Back in the territory days, Christmas was a big house draw for wrestling, which is why they did it. Once it stopped drawing as much, they cut back on it.
It’s not an overreaction to be told that instead of pre-recording a show like they’ve done for years, USA is insisting that they do a live RAW. Believe it or not, those superstars had plans to enjoy a rare Monday off with their families after working all year, now they’re going to miss that for no real reason and they’re justifiably upset.

      • Yeah and if said movie theatre wouldnt open on christmas. They would never get the bigger grossing movies ever again. Which means said movie theatre goes out of business

My town i live in had 5 movie theaters (all having 5 screens or more) at one point. Now we have 1 with 10 screens.

The 10 screen one decided to be open on christmas for the big draw movies. And that forced the other 4 out of business

You have to Remember big movies come out on Christmas day. You realize that right

        Movie big days

        you reply

NBA plays 82 games a season plus 16 to 28 playoff games. They play from mid October to late June

        That isn’t 6 months off

        • NBA only does the playoffs in June, so most teams still get 5-6 months off. WWE does 200 plus days a year not including overseas shows with no off season unless they’re injured and now being told they have to give up Christmas with their families too. They have every right to be upset with USA’s decision.

          • You realize they don’t really get an off-season

They have off-season camps in July and August
