At the Fastlane PPV, Rusev would face off in a ‘bonus match’ against the Big Show. Rusev would ultimately lose the match, leaving a lot of wrestling fans scratching their heads. Was this a punishment of some sort for the ‘Bulgarian Brute’?
Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez speculated on the Wrestling Observer Radio (subscribe here) after Fastlane that the loss could have to do with Rusev having some backstage heat.
There are two tin-foil hat theories going around that could explain this heat. One is that he got a haircut without letting Vince McMahon know ahead of time. If he made that change without telling Vince, you better believe that there would be some repercussions.
The second theory is that his tweet at Jack Swagger a few days ago might have gotten him in trouble. WWE reportedly blocked the release request of Swagger a few days ago. Seems petty of them to do, but not out of the question.
Here was the tweet:

It does seem like Rusev has pissed someone off backstage in the company over the past year. From riding in on a tank against John Cena at Wrestlemania to losing a ‘bonus match’ against the Big Show. The decline of Rusev has been real.
