On this week’s episode of Monday Night RAW, there was a segment between Finn Balor and a returning Paul Heyman. Heyman came to the ring and had some big praise for Balor. This includes calling him the most talented in-ring performer in WWE today.
How come WWE chose to single out Balor here? Balor will face Bray Wyatt, Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins and Samoa Joe at Extreme Rules. The winner earns a WWE Universal Title shot against Brock Lesnar.
Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio (subscribe here), says that the segment was interesting based on how much Heyman built up and put over Balor.
Heyman’s comments and singling out Balor makes him look like the (heavy) favorite to walk away from Extreme Rules as the winner. Meltzer says that the segment told him that there will be a Balor vs Lesnar match in the future. If he doesn’t win at Extreme Rules, he is still expected to be an opponent for Lesnar before 2017 is over. This segment was used to tease that future match.
WWE was clearly laying the foundation for a future match between ‘The Beast Incarnate’ and ‘The Demon King’. The only question now is when will it happen!

Our take is that this might also be WWE’s way to push the believability factor between a potential Balor and Lesnar match. Many fans have been critical that there is no way that Balor could ever defeat someone the size of Lesnar. Maybe they are slowly going to build up Balor as a credible threat? We will have to wait and see.

Would they need a spokesman?
