On Smackdown Live this week, Jinder Mahal confronted Randy Orton after his match against Erick Rowan. Mahal told Orton not to overlook him and their match at Backlash for the WWE Championship. He proceeded to speak to him in ‘his language’ of Punjabi (translation of what he actually said here).
After the Singh Brothers appeared, the trio beat down Orton and stole the WWE Championship belt. They ran out into a limo as Jinder held the title high in the air.
So why did WWE have Jinder steal the title? Other than doing it to get some more heat on Jinder (which it is doing), there seems to be another reason.
Orton will face off against Bray Wyatt at the Payback pay-per-view on Sunday. We noted prior that the title doesn’t look like it will be on the line in their ‘House of Horrors’ match as there has been no mention of the title in the build up.
Jinder stealing the title was likely WWE’s way to avoid having to explain why the WWE title is not on the line after Bray Wyatt was owed his rematch. Now that Jinder has the belt, there is no possible way that Orton can defend it on Sunday. This will stop (most) fans from questioning if the title is on the line at Payback or not, something that has been confusing for the past few weeks.

With Brock Lesnar not defending the WWE Universal Championship at Payback, this also means that there will be no World Title defended at the event on Sunday.

or you know, they could just book angles that make sense
They booked themselves into a corner that is for sure lol
The US title stipulation doesn’t make a lot of sense either.
