It was announced by WWE that Braun Strowman would require surgery to repair a ‘shattered’ elbow that he suffered at the hands of Roman Reigns. The injury will keep Strowman on the shelf for up to 6 months (according to the WWE).
We have noted prior that this has drastically changed WWE’s plans for the next several weeks on Monday Night RAW.
So what exactly were those plans?
According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio (subscribe here), the original plans for the ‘Great Balls of Fire’ Pay-Per-View was Braun Strowman vs Brock Lesnar for the WWE Universal Championship. Strowman would have faced Roman Reigns at the Extreme Rules Pay-Per-View if he hadn’t have been injured and would have moved on to Brock afterwards.
With his injury, plans were changed and we saw on the May 15th episode of Monday Night RAW that there will be a fatal 5-way at Extreme Rules to determine Brock’s opponent: Bray Wyatt vs Roman Reigns vs Finn Balor vs Samoa Joe vs Seth Rollins. The winner will face Brock at Great Balls of Fire for the Title.

As we have noted prior, WWE saying Strowman will be out for 6 months is likely a ‘work’ and fans should expect to see him a lot earlier. With that being the case, it is being speculated that the plans for Strowman have flipped around. Either Finn or Seth are now being speculated as the favorites to face Brock at Great Balls of Fire. Strowman is now expected to face Brock afterwards at Summerslam if he is good to go.
