WWE announced plans for the Mixed Match Challenge on Wednesday. Male and female competitors will compete in a mixed tag team, elimination tournament. This will be aired exclusively on Facebook Live after Smackdown on Tuesday night’s starting on January 16th.
We have an interesting tidbit to share about what the original concept of the show was going to be.
According to Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet, before the mixed tag team concept was decided upon, the original idea was going to be a show focused on the Women of WWE. This would have included female stars from RAW, Smackdown Live, and NXT.

WWE changed the plans and went with the mixed tag team concept instead.

Heard from reliable sources the show was initially only going to feature women from Raw, SD and NXT — but the mixed tag concept came about shortly afterward and plans changed.
