Today’s rumor mill article features the possibility of Wrestlemania on cable television. Also, the latest on some NXT surprises and more. A reminder as always to take rumors with a grain of salt.
WWE Rumors Of The Day (May 27, 2018)
– According to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE actually had a higher bid from either Amazon or Facebook for Smackdown Live. The company decided to go with FOX instead.
– WWE’s live event in Japan next month will feature a big match for the WWE Championship: AJ Styles vs Shinsuke Nakamura vs Daniel Bryan vs Samoa Joe.
– There are some rumors floating around that we will be seeing more surprise appearances at NXT live events. This will be like when the Revival and Tyler Breeze appeared at recent shows. The idea is to add some extra value to these NXT shows with talent who aren’t being used much.
– There is a rumor floating around that a television network is interested in the Wrestlemania rights. If that happens, it would put Wrestlemania on cable, similar to what the Superbowl does:
At least 1 TV network is interested in bidding for WrestleMania rights. Mania for free on TV essentially kills the idea of paying for wrestling on PPV. NFL makes more than $1B from SuperBowl TV rights. A fraction of that would be more than what WWE gets now thru PPV/subscribers.
