Mickie James faced off against Nia Jax on Monday Night RAW this week. It looked like Mickie was about to win the match, but interference from Alexa Bliss caused the match to end in disqualification. Later in the show, Kurt Angle announced Mickie James vs Alexa Bliss for the TLC Pay-Per-View.
So why didn’t Mickie get the win if she is getting pushed for a title shot?
Dave Meltzer and his co-host Bryan Alvarez discussed this on Wrestling Observer Radio (subscribe here). Both felt like Mickie could have used the win to give her some momentum heading into the Pay-Per-View match against Alexa. According to Meltzer there is a reason why Mickie didn’t defeat Nia.
That reason is that WWE is looking to protect Nia from taking a pin. Nia is still number one on WWE’s protection list according to Meltzer and as a result, WWE didn’t want her losing clean. That is why you saw the disqualification finish.
Our take: I understand why they did it, but it really would have given Mickie some momentum heading into her Pay-Per-View match. If they didn’t want her to beat Nia, I think they should have maybe had her defeat another roster member instead. Not a big deal though as she proved that she could hang with Nia which makes her look good.
Here is a very interesting fact about RAW next week and the Shield.
