John Cena’s Return Opponent

It was advertised this week on Smackdown Live that John Cena would be returning to WWE on July 4th. Cena has been absent from WWE since Wrestlemania 33 where him and Nikki Bella defeated the Miz and Maryse in their mixed tag match.

With Cena set to return in a few weeks, we can start asking who he will be feuding with.

The rumor mill currently suggests that Cena could be heading straight back into the WWE Title picture when he returns.

His opponent will (according to the rumors) be none other than Jinder Mahal, who is currently working a pro-India/ anti-American gimmick as WWE Champion. With Cena returning on the Fourth of July, it seems obvious that we are destined to see Jinder interrupt Cena and bash the United States for some easy heat.

The idea between a Jinder Mahal and John Cena feud will be to legitimize Jinder’s title reign in India. Successfully defending the WWE Title against Randy Orton and John Cena will only help WWE’s expansion into the country.

In a recent interview with Sportskeeda, Jinder spoke about wanting a match against Cena:

“At the moment (my top opponent) is Randy Orton, but, I see John Cena – when he returns – as my biggest competition. I have the WWE Championship, which means I’m the face of WWE, and for a long time John Cena is the face of WWE, and I know he’s not going to give up that title as the face of WWE anytime soon”

Reminder to take rumors with a grain of salt. This certainly seems like the path that we are on.
