Hideo Itami’s career with WWE has been a disappointment to say the least. He came into the company with a lot of hype but due to injuries, he has not been able to reach his full potential.
He recently received a chance at the NXT Championship against Bobby Roode. Their match was solid but he was unsuccessful in his quest to win the belt.
SEScoops is reporting that Itami’s contract with WWE is coming to an end this year. He is reportedly considering leaving the company after his disappointing run so far.
Dave Meltzer was asked about these rumors on the mailbag section of Wrestling Observer Radio. He says that he doesn’t know for sure if he is leaving but he could see it happening due to Itami wanting to be closer to his family.
Triple H was also recently asked about Itami during the NXT Takeover: Chicago media call. Here is what he had to say when asked about Itami’s future if he had a poor showing at Takeover:
“Hopefully, he will rise to this occasion and we won’t have to worry about that conversation, but if it doesn’t then he and I will discuss it and see what he wants to do next and what those next steps are and we would go from there”
We will have to wait and see what Itami and the WWE choose to do.

This is tagged as a rumor so take with a grain of salt. Certainly wouldn’t surprise me if Itami did choose to leave the company. It seems like he has had bad luck after bad luck with injuries and hasn’t been able to find his groove.
