As we have noted prior, a match between John Cena and the Undertaker had been heavily rumored for the past year for Wrestlemania 33 in Orlando. This didn’t come to fruition as it was reported several weeks ago that Vince McMahon had decided to go in another direction for both guys at the event.
Fast-forward to now and John Cena is the WWE World Champion after defeating AJ Styles at the Royal Rumble. He will be defending the belt at the Elimination Chamber against 5 other men. We have noted that Bray Wyatt is rumored to be walking out as champion (and face Randy Orton at Wrestlemania), So where does that leave John Cena?
There are rumors going around that Cena could be involved in an angle with his real-life girlfriend Nikki Bella. The idea would be that Cena and Nikki would take on the Miz and Maryse at Wrestlemania in a mixed tag team match. WWE teased an angle between the Miz and Maryse vs Dean Ambrose and Renee Young but that seems like it has been scrapped.
Update: Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscribe here) confirms that this match is being discussed right now.

With the injury to Seth Rollins this week, the domino’s could start to fall if WWE is forced to scrap Triple H vs Rollins for Wrestlemania. In this case, John Cena could be used in a bigger role at the show. We will have to wait and see but as of right now, Cena could be in a mixed tag team match at Wrestlemania 33.
Let us know what you think in the comment section below. Would you like this match or not.
the mixed gender match is a horrible idea. cena is too big for that trash.
heaven forbid vince needs to get creative like nakamura/cena. samoa joe/cena. finn balor/cena. kurt angle/cena. HHH/Cena. I wouldn’t be totally opposed to a cena/stroman match if the build is done properly. could resemble hogan/andre WM3 if they do it right.
OR… wait for it… WWE clears Daniel Bryan for one last match against his (possible) future brother-in-law. as long as they can work a safe style and DB avoid major bumps to the head… I think DB would be fine to wrestle on more match before retiring for good from WWE.
long story short… there’s a million ideas for cena. vince just has to be open to new ideas.
Meltzer thinks that mix tags are 6/5 star matches, bruh.
