With the formation of AEW, it seems like pro-wrestlers have more opportunity than ever to make a lot of money.
We have news to pass your way about some recent contract offers from WWE.
In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscribe here), Dave Meltzer noted that for certain wrestlers, WWE has made it clear that they are willing to beat any contract offer from other promotions.
In some cases, Meltzer says that if they can show WWE an offer on paper from another promotion, they will beat it. In some cases, they might even double it on the spot if they sign immediately.
PWInsider also reports that WWE has started to approach Superstars whose deals are expiring in the next year. The company is now trying to lock them up to longer deals. Instead of the usual 3-year contracts, more Superstars are being offered 5-year deals.
My Take: This is great news for the wrestlers themselves. It looks like the increased competition will lead to wrestlers getting a bigger slice of the pie. I am excited to see what happens next and if Vince feels threatened over the next year. That is when he seems to do his best work.
