The WWE Releases Long-Time Employee Of Over 30 Years

The Brooklyn Brawler has been released by the WWE.

You might remember the Brooklyn Brawler (Steve Lombardi) from his time in the WWE… Considering he has worked for the company since the early 1980’s in many different capacities, you might have crossed paths with him. He started as an enhancement talent with the company. He moved up as a professional wrestler, even being paired with the legendary Bobby the Brain Heenan in 1989. He appeared sporadically throughout the years as an on-screen talent, even up until 2013 where he wrestled Ryback on WWE Superstars. He has served as a road agent/ producer with the WWE for years as well.

According to PWInsider, the WWE cut ties with Lombardi last week. His release came at the same time as when the company announced the release of Damien Sandow and 8 other stars. The WWE didn’t announce it publicly.

Here is what the report said about his role with the WWE and his release:

“Although he continued to make sporadic appearances over the years on WWE TV (usually at events broadcast from NYC, where he was always a cult favorite), Lombardi had been a far more valuable asset to the company behind the scenes, where he worked his way up to overseeing and producing promos. Lombardi was the person that every talent, upon trying out, had to cut promos for and his praise or criticism would factor greatly into whether the talent would get a bigger look from the company” (SOurce: PWInsider).

Pretty sad to see a guy who worked with the company for so long get the boot!  I wish the Brooklyn Brawler success in whatever his next step is! Incredible as an enhancement level guy he was able to stick around so long!
