WWE Pipe Bomb Reactions From Other Wrestlers

CM Punk’s WWE Pipe Bomb has become a thing of legend. On the June 27th, 2011 episode of RAW, CM Punk sat on the ramp and voiced his frustrations with the WWE (breaking the fourth-wall in the process). This included shots at several stars, including John Cena, Triple H, Hulk Hogan and Vince McMahon. Years have passed since this promo but it still remains as one of the most talked about in WWE history. Here are several WWE stars giving their take on Punk’s infamous WWE Pipe Bomb.

Wrestlers Comment On CM Punk’s Infamous WWE Pipe Bomb

Road Dogg On The Impact On The ‘Pipe Bomb’

Road Dogg in an interview with WWE.com gave his thoughts about the promo. At the time of this interview, Road Dogg had just returned to the company. He was also the one who gave Punk the 2011 Slammy Award for “Pipe Bomb of the Year”.

He says that the promo started a revolution and that it helped launch Punk’s popularity:

“I think it caused a revolution, to be quite honest with you- I think people who know the inside track, they always want to hear somebody who drops that on national TV. I think that’s what brought CM Punk to the forefront, and now his popularity has just grown ever since. It’s fun to see him on all our live events and just how popular he is. He never ceases to amaze me. It takes charisma, it takes personality, and Punk has loads of both”

Can’t argue with that.  There is no doubt that this was a star-making moment for Punk.

Jim Cornette Gives His Take

Cornette has a reputation for being very old school in his mentality about the wrestling business. So how did he feel about the Pipe Bomb, where Punk ‘broke the fourth-wall’??? Turns out, he loved it.

In an interview with Inside The Ropes, he praised Punk for speaking the truth. Here is what he said:

“So CM Punk, and I saw it, I’ve been clean and sober from WWE programming for quite some time now, but I did watch that. It was a tremendous performance and it was a tremendous delivery. He said things that a lot of people wanted to say and he made himself in that one night, the new Steve Austin. He did it at a perfect time because his contract was coming up and he didn’t really give a s–t because he’s careful with his money but at the same time he knew he could get over doing that and somehow he manipulated them into letting him do it and probably took a few liberties out there with a live microphone. Then they had to resign him”

He continued:

“Two weeks later when he came out to Cult of Personality by Living Color, because one thing Vince despises is having to pay music rights, I knew that he had basically got everything he had wanted in his contract. Then he was poised to become the next Stone Cold Steve Austin, the hottest babyface in all of pro wrestling, but of course once they resigned him they still had to make the point that they’re gonna control everybody and knocked him back down.”

I apologize if you were looking for Cornette to rip him…..

  1. I am of the opinion that Punk’s pipe bomb was a mixture of both worlds. This is not the first time something like this happened. What made this stand out was Punk himself. He clearly showed how passionate and driven he was at the time about wrestling. He spoke for all the Wrestling fans who respect the industry and were finally being fed up with having”their intelligence insulted” about the product’s direction. HHH and Vince knew this would draw, and added the same follow up narrative.
Yeah it was legit. It also brought $$$. To add to it Punk still not being featured in the same manner as Cena afterward further proof of the pipebomb being set off.
