Kane returned this week on Monday Night RAW in shocking fashion. Kane appeared from under the ring during the steel cage match between Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman. Kane attacked Reigns and was announced as the fifth member of Team Miz for TLC.
Kane’s return was a giant surprise that wasn’t spoiled in advance. So how did WWE keep it a secret?
According to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscribe here), WWE went to major lengths to hide Kane’s return.
According to the report, these lengths included not even letting any of the WWE locker room know that he was going to be returning on the show.
WWE didn’t fly Kane into Portland (where RAW was held). He was actually flown into a different city and driven directly to the show. WWE had him hide the entire time.
The show was also constructed in a way that made you think that Curtis Axel would be the fifth man. After Axel was attacked, speculation grew that it could be Samoa Joe, who is scheduled to return from injury soon. Not many would have guessed Kane as the surprise.
A great job by WWE for keeping fans guessing.
