WWE Issues Statement About Going Back To Live TV Shows

News recently broke that WWE is going back to airing RAW, Smackdown, and NXT live. This came as a surprise to many as the company had been taping episodes in advance during the coronavirus pandemic.

WWE has now released a statement on their decision to deliver live programming during the pandemic.

Here is what they issued to ESPN:

We believe it is now more important than ever to provide people with a diversion from these hard times. We are producing content on a closed set with only essential personnel in attendance following appropriate guidelines while taking additional precautions to ensure the health and wellness of our performers and staff. As a brand that has been woven into the fabric of society, WWE and its Superstars bring families together and deliver a sense of hope, determination and perseverance.

A recent report suggests that WWE is only allowed a few pre-taped shows (per year) in their television contracts with NBC and FOX. As a result, there is some concern within WWE that the networks will be able to withhold money from them if they don’t produce live content.
