4) Why Randy Orton vs Big Show Isn’t Happening At Extreme Rules
WWE has officially announced an unsanctioned match for RAW. It will be The Big Show vs Randy Orton. This left many fans confused as it seemed like the company was going to do this match at the Extreme Rules PPV.
According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, this match was moved to RAW in order to try and help ratings. Here is what he wrote:
”With Raw ratings declining so significantly, the Big Show vs. Randy Orton match will air on the 7/20 Raw show in an unsanctioned match. That does make sense because that match isn’t going to add any network buyers, which is how you make money today off a PPV, but after this past week’s record low, Show vs. Orton should avert coming even close to another record low next week. At least they’d better hope for that, because it will be scary if they put that match on television and don’t get a significant improvement.”
My Take:
- If I am being honest, I don’t know if a Randy Orton vs Big Show match in 2020 is going to help bring in new viewers. I don’t mind this match not happening at the PPV but I don’t think that it is going to be a massive ratings draw.
3) The Original Plans For The Top RAW Feuds After Extreme Rules
According to journalist Tom Colohue, another match between Randy Orton and Edge was originally supposed to happen at Summerslam. These plans have been nixed due to Edge’s injury.
Colohue says that the plan for Drew McIntyre at the event was originally going to be Brock Lesnar. Here is what he said:
“Orton vs. Edge was supposed to be the SummerSlam match with Brock Lesnar lined up for Drew McIntyre. Now that Edge is out of the picture, they have given Orton something to do while they work out what to do next.
If they can’t get Brock Lesnar into the country, or if they just need someone for McIntyre, we may end up with McIntyre vs. Orton, but we need to kill a little bit of time on the way.
My Take:
- I don’t have much interest in seeing Drew vs Brock again. The only way I want to see this is if Drew is going to win. We don’t need another title reign from Brock. Orton vs McIntyre sounds like a great feud to me and I would love to see it.
