10) Looming Return
There are some looming returns from injury that are coming soon. The first name is Jason Jordan. According to Dave Meltzer, Jordan is currently scheduled to return in July but it is unclear exactly when.
There have been rumors for weeks now that Jordan has been close to returning but it hasn’t happened yet. Extreme Rules seems like a possibility or maybe even the night after to start the build towards Summerslam.
Keep your eye on Jordan on Sunday night though as he could help out his old tag team partner Seth Rollins against the numbers game of Drew McIntyre and Dolph Ziggler.
9) Dean Ambrose’s Status
Another return that is looming is Dean Ambrose. WWE originally said that Ambrose could be out for 9 months after he tore his triceps in late 2017. Dean is currently 7 months+ into his rehab.
I know that fans want to see Dean back already but it doesn’t look like that will happen at Extreme Rules. The latest rumor suggests that Dean could be out until after Summerslam. That obviously takes him out of contention for an Extreme Rules return.
Don’t get your hopes up for the Lunatic Fringe on Sunday night.
8) The Future Of The RAW Tag Team Titles
A rumor is making the rounds about Bray Wyatt and Matt Hardy’s reign as RAW Tag Team Champions. Specifically, the rumor suggests that the Deleters of Worlds will be facing the Authors of Pain at Summerslam.
If this is true, it would mean that Wyatt and Hardy will be defeating the B Team at Extreme Rules to retain their belts.
I agree with it. There are still plenty of good feuds for Wyatt and Hardy to come.
7) Why The Multi-Person Match Was Scrapped
Kurt Angle originally announced a multi-person match at Extreme Rules to determine Brock Lesnar’s next Universal Title challenger. On the June 25th episode of RAW, Angle announced those plans had been scrapped due to “contractual issues” with Brock.
So why was the match scrapped?
Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Live says that it was a case of Vince McMahon changing his mind. Here is a quote (h/t to Ringside News):
“Yesterday I guess I was talking about ‘maybe Brock Lesnar really doesn’ want to face Roman Reigns again?’ Maybe Brock Lesnar would rather face Bobby Lashley — none of that’s true, none of that happened. It was Vince just decided. He had announced a multi-man match and sometime during the week he had decided, ‘I don’t want to do this anymore.’ And so he scrapped it. That’s the story. Had nothing to do with Brock Lesnar. Brock’s just sitting there waiting to find out what they’re going to do. Vince just changed his mind.”
