6) Braun Strowman Will Defeat Kevin Owens
Braun Strowman has been messing with Kevin Owens over the past few weeks. He flipped Owens’ car over on the June 25th episode of RAW. He also knocked a port-a-potty over with Owens still inside on the July 2nd episode. It is now confirmed, Strowman vs Owens will happen at Extreme Rules inside of a steel cage.
The goal of this storyline seems to be to give Strowman something to do now that he has the Money in the Bank briefcase. It doesn’t make sense for him to be involved in any number one contender’s storylines so they need something for him to do.
Not much of a question that Braun is going to win the match. WWE is going to keep building him up until he inevitably wins the Universal Title. Pretty safe bet that it will be a long night for Kevin Owens.
5) AJ Styles Will Retain The WWE Championship
Rusev defeated four other men in a gauntlet match on the June 19th episode of Smackdown Live. As a result, he has earned a WWE Championship match against AJ Styles at Extreme Rules. This was a surprise to many fans as it felt like WWE has been hesitant to push Rusev over the past several months.
It should be interesting to hear the crowd response to this match since they both arguably receive the loudest reactions on Smackdown Live’s roster.
As for the match itself, I think AJ is going to retain. I love Rusev but I think this is a placeholder feud for Styles before he gets involved with Samoa Joe at Summerslam. Rusev will look like a million bucks in the loss but I don’t see him walking out with the belt.
4) Samoa Joe Will Confront AJ Styles After He Retains
I think that we are getting AJ Styles vs Samoa Joe at Summerslam. I think that we will see this match get set up at Extreme Rules after Styles retains his WWE Championship.
A good way to do it would be for Joe to attack Styles in the middle of the ring. Joe doesn’t have a match at Extreme Rules so this could be a good way for him to make an impact.
Joe could also just confront Styles backstage or something to tease this match. Regardless, I think we will be seeing Joe vs Styles get set up for Summerslam.
3) Roman Reigns vs Bobby Lashley Will Main Event The Show
Kurt Angle originally announced a multi-person match at Extreme Rules with the winner getting the next Universal Title shot against Brock Lesnar. This was eventually scrapped by Angle due to contractual issues with Brock Lesnar. Eventually, WWE made Bobby Lashley vs Roman Reigns official.
My personal guess is that the match between Lashley and Reigns will be the main event of the PPV. Looking at the card right now, this seems to be a safe bet to go on last. This feud has received the most focus from WWE over the past few weeks.
I also think that WWE will add the stipulation that the winner will face Brock Lesnar next.
