Good Evening fellow Extreme Rulers this will be a bit different style from the predictions column that I wrote before. This should be a pretty good PPV, I’m expecting quite a bit from over half the card. If you didn’t get a chance to read my predictions article I took: Finn Balor, The Miz, The Hardy Boyz, Alexa Bliss, Austin Aries and Rich Swan and Sasha Banks.
Well here comes the preshow let’s hope this PPV overperforms like most WWE PPV’s have since the WWE Network was created.
- My first comment may actually be my first unpopular opinion of the night but Renee Young is not looking her typical spunky self-tonight.
- I love Sam Roberts if you don’t listen to his podcasts then you are missing out on some good stuff but he does nothing really for me on the preshow.
- Well I’ve started out as a negative nelly so far eh?
- Oh…. We have a Pre-Show match that’s exciting. Nope not Goldust and R-Truth it’s the other throwaway feud on Raw Kalisto and Apollo Crews w/ Lavar O’Neill in his corner.
- This match just shows that both of these guys are currently being misused on the roster. I don’t typically criticize “Creative decision” but Kalisto would really shine in the Cruiserweight division.
- Wow ok love the ending neat spot with Kalisto kicking Titus Ball in the face and hitting the Soleda del sol? Sound good to you? Ok yeah for the pin on Apollo Crews good opener.
- I expect the first match of the night to be the cage match as I expect it to be a red-hot match.
- Well wrong again I see. The Miz takes on Dean Ambrose you know the crazy guy who if he gets disqualified loses his title tonight… AT EXTREME RULES!
- A lot of people have been very upset about the stipulation for this match and I’ve certainly poked some fun at it but actually for this feud…. It makes sense.
- Really good back and forth between The Miz and Dean Ambrose both excel when given time to tell a story and use psychology very well in their respective matches.
- HA! Miz screams at Maryse to slap him then the ref does the ole SHOULD I? SHOULD I? Routine. He throws Maryse out and now a ref bump. Ambrose pleads with the ref before a Skull Crushing Finale.
- Miz wins in a really good match. People always want longer storylines and matches that mean more but I’ve seen a lot of people upset over these two still being paired.
- Next up we have a Bayley interview. Boy gee. You know a lot of people are ripping creative for Bayley not “getting over” but I’m not so sure it’s them and not her.
- We now have The Swan Boss against Darr FOOOOOOOX.
- Hm… this must be a women’s division match that has cruiserweights instead of vice versa. Why? No.Purple.Ropes.
- HA! Darr and FOOOOOOOOX tag by hugging. I wonder if Bayley will sue for copyright infringement.
- Phoenix Splash from Swann to Darr to pick-up the win. Some really nice spots in this match especially the double knees from the top from Banks to Darr on the outside.
- I wasn’t expecting a concert tonight. This Elias Sampson “Drifter” character is so much better on the main roster.
- Drifter’s Gonna Drift.
- Kendo Stick on a pole is next and we know this because of the video package being shown for Alexa vs. Bayley.
- Attention readers in honor of this great match I want you to let me know; what is your favorite “on a pole” match. Best answer will get a shout out in my next article and a follow.
- That first shot from Alexa to Bayley looked really stiff.
- Whoa. Game Set Match I was checking the score of the NBA Sweeps and missed the finish. Alexa Wins via DDT thanks to my wife saying “Well that was dumb.”
- I eluded to this earlier but Bayley’s character on the main roster just isn’t clicking and I don’t blame it on the writing. Makes me wonder if people loved the NXT story or the Performer.
- Now we do a shot of the cage above the ring which means the Tag Title match is up next.
- Cesaro and Sheamus make such a good tag team and they are really hitting their groove.
- Here is possibly my next unpopular opinion of the night but Jeff Hardy will always be more beloved than Matt broken or not.
- This is how you effectively use a cage ladies and gentlemen. These four guys really know how to put on a hard hitting and entertaining match.
- Jeff escapes now his not so broken brother is in their by himself with two really painful fellas.
- Not for long as Jeff can’t resist jumping from the top of the cage. Really cool move and glad he decided not to do the swanton from there as that is unnecessarily dangerous.
- Wow fun finish to this match as both teams are racing each other trying to get out. Cesaro and Sheamus touch the floor just before the Hardy Boyz do.
- Neville and Austin Aries are up next in a cruiserweight title match you know what that means.
- These two guys are extremely good and Neville is really thriving in this monster heel cruiserweight role.
- These guys are putting on an absolute gem and is definitely what this division needs EXCEPT they can’t wrestle much more after this and nobody else as interesting as these guys.
- Love Austin Aries holding on to the submission going to the floor wait… Why is the ref counting in a submission match?
- Let me check the official rule book for clarification. Oh here is it Section M paragraph H.
- Ouch Neville hits the Red Arrow on Austin Aries back and locks in the “Rings Of Saturn” why not “The Kings Clutch”?
- Neville picks up the win and I guess next up for him is Rich Swann?
- Its only ten o’clock and the main event is about to start and man even seeing Brock Lesnar in a video package gets me pumped.
- I know I know it’s not cool to like Brock Lesnar because he’s part time and he shouldn’t have a main event spot or a title. Here’s an unpopular opinion Lesnar is a modern day Andre @ me.
- I may have to watch it back but man at first watch I believe Seth Freakin’ Rollins had the loudest pop of any of the five competitors.
- Roman just can’t get cheered as he should. The negative reaction wasn’t as loud tonight as normal but I don’t get it anymore.
- These guys are really laying it in and brawling everywhere. I guess this is what an extreme rules match is supposed to look like?
- For my money the best finisher in this match is hands down the coquina clutch. Its old school it puts you to sleep and Joe makes it look that much more painful.
- I know it’s become really cool to hate Finn Balor because of his size. I think that is why they are separating him so much with Joe and Wyatt over the last week to show he belongs.
- Seth Rollins is special. He gets it as a babyface or as a heel. If A.J. styles is the best in the world then Seth Rollins is the incumbent.
- Finn Balor starts unloading on everyone and he looks awesome doing it. That running kick to Roman Reigns face looked BRUTAL.
- That barricade spot was awesome except for the fact you see it like once a month and is no longer special.
- Rollins does a frog splash on Wyatt through a table my goodness everyone is down and Rollins is holding his knee let’s hope that him selling.
- I love when Balor or Rollins gets hit with the Superman Punch it’s like The Andy’s Coming challenge and they just fall.
- Really great exchange and finisher reversals to finish. Balor looked to be getting the win until Joe comes in and chokes out Balor.
- I am fully behind the finish of this match and these five guys tore the house down in my opinion.
- Nope not commenting on the promo for Great Balls Of Fire.
- Reading back through the main event there is one guy I didn’t name during the match. That should tell you a little something about who made sure to stand out.
An entertaining PPV and I believe the WWE has hit the groove with number of matches. They definitely stole from the NXT playbook for Backlash and Extreme rules with less matches and more time given to them. Match of the night for me was the main event as those guys beat the hell out of each other and told a good story. The only sore spot I see in this PPV is the women’s title match I felt a slight regression but hey get Bayley out of the title picture and spotlight and let her figure out her character a bit more.
