RAW last night saw the dawning of a new era. A show that has been receiving rave reviews on social media as being one of the best in the past couple years. Fans got to see Sasha Banks win the WWE Women’s Championship. Finn Balor defeated Rusev, Cesaro, Kevin Owens and Roman Reigns throughout the night to earn his spot against Seth Rollins for the newly formed WWE Universal Championship. It was clear that things were changing in the WWE. Not everyone was thrilled about RAW last night, Vince Russo says the show was the final nail in the coffin for him.
Russo was critical (on the new site he works for Fightful.com) of Finn Balor going on to win both of his matches. Saying it was unrealistic that someone his size would beat two heavyweights:
“After tonight’s RAW aired, I came to the sad conclusion that the professional wrestling business as we knew it is dead. The “New Era” is officially here, and the genre that many of us enjoyed and supported for decades upon decades is never coming back. Gone forever are the days of unique characters, compelling story lines and fights that actually looked real, and here to stay are the days of a middle-weight (at best) beating not one, but two heavyweights in the same night, in matches that told no stories and looked more like Swan Lake than fights” (Source: Fightful).
Russo says that the WWE catered to the IWC (internet wrestling community) and it was the final nail in the coffin for him:
“When Finn Balor was booked to defeat the likes of Rusev and Roman Reigns in the same night — on his first night — this was the nail in the coffin for me. I never believed that I would ever see a powerhouse like the WWE cater to the smallest audience, with the loudest voice — the IWC. Tonight . . . they won the war. It is over and done with. The “casuals” can now officially give up any and all hope” (Source: Fightful).

Hey Russo. Three things. First, we already have interesting characters, storylines, and good matches. If you’re referring to your era, well then I’m sorry, but get your head out of your ass. Second, it’s Finn’s first night on the main roster. He’s been crushing heavyweights in NXT for a couple of years now in the form of Kevin Owens and Samoa Joe. Also he’s been wrestling for a good 16 years, so just because he’s not one of your big names doesn’t mean he’s not a veteran.
Finally and most importantly, it was your “unique” stories and characters that killed WCW. So watch that glass house of yours.
Bro, bro I know bro but the mainstream casual audience bro wanna see the 49’ers match bro. Bro I know but 4 star matches don’t draw bro. We need the reverse royal rumble to liven things up bro to bring back the mainstream casual audience bro.
Bro I’m not sure of what point you’re making bro even after I read that three times bro, sorry bro.
Vince Russo should eat a dick. Wrestling is fucking scripted(as he knows)… Kalisto can beat Roman Reigns in a believable way if thats how they want it booked.
Russo says about the “decades of wrestling” we enjoyed and the realism involved. He is the man who said 4 star matches don’t draw only gimmicks draw and he booked classics like the Judy Bagwell on a forklift match. Russo also said KO is a slow worker and Sami Zayn is too bland to be a beloved baby face. If anyone takes what he says seriously, they are nuts.
Just because someone is a heavyweight, that doesn’t automatically make him/her a good wrestler. I think Finn Bálor made his victories look believable. Or how many times has Russo takes the double stomp to his midsection??
