2) What Were The Long-Term Plans For The Storyline?
Chris DeJoseph was interviewed by Wade Keller of PWTorch back in 2012. Here is what he had to say about the long-term plans for the Vince McMahon death angle:
“I think we were excited about it. It was kind of a directive from the network in a way to try to create a huge story arc of – I think at the time everybody was into Whodunit? Okay, we are given the task of coming up with a Whodunit? We sat around that room enough hours and days and finally came up with: We’re going to blow up Vince. We had a pretty long-term storyline. I don’t know if we have a complete, defined finish of who it was or why it was done. I think that was going to be an evolving process”
He continued, saying that the idea was for it to be a power struggle to take over the company now that Vince was gone:
“Yes, I think the idea was for Vince to just be missing and his body is burned beyond recognition, he is gone, something like that, I think. The idea was to say he was actually dead. I think it was going to be a scramble for power in the company. That was really the idea behind it. Now that he was gone, everybody was fighting for power and everybody has different motives. What were some of those motives to get the power?”
This could have been awesome.
1) Mr. Kennedy Was Almost Involved
There was a rumor going around that Vince was supposed to come back several months later and admit to the world that he faked his own death. The idea would be that he had several accomplices that helped him do it.
One of these accomplices was supposed to be Mr. Kennedy. There was even word that Kennedy was going to be revealed as the illegitimate son of Vince at some point. Kennedy violated the WWE wellness policy and the storyline with him involved was dropped.
Here is the story from Kennedy in an interview with Wrestling Inc:
“I was told [about the angle]. I had conversations with Stephanie and Vince and it was kind of like a big deal- I remember the night that Vince blew himself up in the limousine, Stephanie said, ‘hey, I want to tell you something – we’ve got something really big for you, but I want Vince to tell you himself.’ She was pretty excited about it. And then, so we did the buildup for the next few weeks or whatever. And then, I got in trouble and all that went away”
Hornswoggle eventually was announced as Vince’s illegitimate son in a mess of an angle. That all could have been Mr. Kennedy.
