Vince McMahon Death Storyline: 8 Behind-The-Scenes Stories

6) The Director Of The Storyline Gives His Point Of View

Longtime WWE director Kerwin Silfies was a guest on the Steve Austin Show podcast. He spoke on a wide variety of topics, including the limo exploding incident.

Silfies was responsible for directing the angle and making sure that it looked real. As we noted prior, it appears as if he did a pretty good job of fooling people.

Silfies’ is proud of that segment to this day and says that it came out perfect:

“It was kind of a small moment, but I was very proud of it and it was when we blew up Vince in the limo because it took a lot of work to set that up and there was all kinds of speculation about how we did it and how it was ‘Vince got out the other side of the car’ and ‘there was a fake leg that came out’ and all kinds of stuff that was just baloney. But we’re not Hollywood. We’re the WWE and we do a lot of things really, really well, but we’re not Hollywood and we didn’t have a five million dollar budget for that stunt and it came out perfect.

People in the arena calling EMTs saying that Vince just got blown up in the parking lot. Now, that’s crazy! That’s just flat-out crazy, but it was that good.”

5) How WWE  Actually Pulled It Off

Silfies doesn’t go into the specifics about how they actually pulled off the angle. So how the hell did WWE pull this off? How did Vince escape the burning limo?

If you were a hardcore fan back in 2007, you probably checked the message boards and websites to find out more information. For those that didn’t we have your answer.

From an article on WrestlePundit.com, here is how WWE pulled it off:

“Before the live episode of Raw, on the Saturday and Sunday the actual explosion was filmed. WWE hired a Hollywood pyro team – Zenith Pyrotechnology – and had to acquire several permits to legally pull off the stunt. As Vince left the arena they cut the live feed and went to the pre taped explosion, giving the impression that it was live. Before the crowd left the arena they placed the burnt out husk of the limo in position to add to the effect. There is a small continuity error when Vince leaves the arena, as the ground near the limo is dry. When he goes to enter the limo (the pre-taped footage) the ground has a puddle of water”

Still, WWE did the best that they could to make it seem as real as possible.
