WWE brought back the ‘Starrcade’ name for a live event this past weekend. The event took place at the U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio.
WWE aired one hour of ‘Starrcade’ on the WWE Network. This included the steel cage match between AJ Styles and Samoa Joe. It also included two other tag team matches.
We have an update for you on if the show was a success for WWE.
According to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscribe here), the event drew 8000 fans. This is much better than what typical house shows are doing from a numbers standpoint. From an attendance standpoint, the show was a success for WWE as live event business has been down as of late.
As for the one-hour special on the WWE Network, it was also a success for WWE. ‘Starrcade’ was the most-watched show of the week on the WWE Network.
WWE has been discussing airing house shows on the Network for the rumored tier system that could go into place next year. It seems like WWE’s first big test here was a success.
