My name is Damien Drain and i am a fan of WWE/Pro Wrestling and UFC/MMA and i am here to give the main card results for UFC On Fox 20 Holm vs Shevchenko. The main event was a battle between top ranked contenders Holly Holm and Holly Shevchenko and a potential fight of the night candidate between top ranked lightweight contender Edson Barboza and the returning Gilbert “El Nino” Melendez so without further a do let’s get into these UFC on Fox 20 results shall we.
First fight of the night was a 115 Womens Strawweight Bout between the returning Felice Herring and Kailian Curran in a fight where i thought Curran would win a decision. Herring however surprised me she put on a great performance she looked in GREAT shape tonight she really did she ended up getting Curran’s back and locked her in a Rear Naked Choke and credit to Curran for defending the choke very well but eventually Herring made Curran succumb to the rear naked choke and made her tap out as Felice Herring won via submission by Rear Naked Choke just 1:59 into the first round a good performance and a good comeback for Herring after being out for over a year and now she could be on the way to better things in this Womens Strawweight Division.
Next up was the Heavyweight Bout between Francis Nagannou vs Bojan Mihajlovic and Nagnnou did what was advertised he went in there and took Mihajlovic in no time cause Mihajlovic went for a takedown fell back and Nagnnou pounced on him landing some punches but to be fair Mihajlovic was kind of defending himself intelligently but not enough for Herb Dean who was the ref and stopped the fight at 1:44 of the first round Nagannou won by TKO and his future seems to be bright in the UFC’s heavyweight division could be a contender in 2017.
Co Main Event was next Edson Barboza vs Gilbert Melendez in the Lightweight Division. Barboza and Melendez turned in what i expected i thought it was the Fight of the Night this was a great fight Edson Barboza’s leg kicks are the most dangerous leg kicks in the UFC they are i think just as dangerous and lethal as Jose Aldo’s leg kicks because he absolutely beat the shit out of Melendez’s legs through rounds two and three and there was some really good exchanges and the fight did end up going the distance and Barboza won a competitve Unanimous Decision with two 30-27 scores and a 29-28 score it seems like Edson Barboza is finally a Top 5 Lightweight Contender and could be in line for a title eliminatior bout in his next fight while Gilbert Melendez idk he’s 34 years old he’s lost 3 straight fights either Melendez is going to stay at Lightweight, move up or move down a weight class or he might decide to retire he does a good job with Chael Sonnen on ESPN analyzing MMA when ESPN does cover one of the events but this was a big and important win for Edson Barboza in argubly the best division in the UFC right now which is the UFC’s Lightweight Division.
Main Event the woman who beat Ronda Rousey, Holly Holm vs Valentina Shevchenko 5 round Women’s Bantamweight Bout huge fight with potential title implications and in the first round Holm looked good she was able to knock Shevchenko down which gave her the round. But Holm made a major mistake she fought the fight that Shevchenko wanted to fight and from rounds 2-5 Shevchenko actually out-struck Holly Holm a former 18-time boxing champion and the former UFC Womens Bantamweight Champion and she took her down in this fight 3 times and in the 3rd round Shevchenko cut Holm with a accidental headbutt but she took her down and Holly Holm did not even attempt to get up after being taken down and Shevchenko used a very effective counter right hook and leg kicks to outstrike Holm and Shevchenko won a clear Unanimous Decision earning 49-46 scores on all three judges scorecards to get the victory. First off great win for Shevchenko she is now a bona fide contender no doubt but this is all about Holly Holm, Holly Holm in November scored the biggest upset of the year she knocked out Ronda Rousey at UFC 193 she had all of the momentum in the world she could of been a huge star for the UFC instead Holm decided to fight Miesha Tate at UFC 196 in which her manager infamously called Miesha a “tune up” she loses by submission and now tonight she loses a clear cut unanimous decision to Valentina Shevchenko all in the span of about 9 months. Bottom line is tonight was the cap to the fall of Holly Holm and now for Shevchenko she can call for a title fight with Amanda Nunes but for Holly Holm where does she go from here i have no clue she can’t get a rematch for the Womens Bantamweight Title, i don’t think there going to book a rematch with Miesha Tate and she for sure has no crediblity for a rematch with Ronda Rousey whenever Ronda comes back so Holly Holm in a span of 9 months has gone from champion to losing her title to getting beat by a fighter who by all accounts she should of beaten but was out-struck and just worked over by Shevchenko so huge win for Shevchenko but a very bad loss for Holly Holm
Overall thoughts: very fun show a much better show then i expected i thought Fight of the Night belonged to Edson Barboza vs Gilbert Melendez and Performances of the Night Francis Nagannou and Felice Herring in my opinion so very fun show and i am looking forward to UFC 201 next saturday night
