Triple H was recently interviewed by CBS Sports’ for their “In This Corner Podcast“. One of the topics that was brought up had to do with WWE’s main competition. Triple H spoke about NXT raising the bar for the WWE main roster.
One of the examples that he used was a few years ago at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn where Sasha Banks and Bayley stole the show with their incredible match.
You might remember after the match, the camera pans to the crowd and you could see Seth Rollins at ringside with tears in his eyes.
Triple H shared what Rollins told him backstage after that match:
“[Rollins] came backstage and said he had dust in his eyes — and it wasn’t dust, it was tears. He looked at me and said, ‘I’m going to be up all night trying to think how I surpass that. Oh my God. Like, I was totally relaxed about tomorrow and now I’m not going to sleep all night because I’m the main event on the main roster of SummerSlam and I’ve got to beat that.’
Rollins faced John Cena the next night in one of the biggest matches at Summerslam.
In case you missed the moment, it aired on a ‘WWE 24’ episode:
