Triple H was recently interviewed by For The Win to promote the Mae Young Classic. The first round of the tournament was recently released on the WWE Network and features some of the best women in wrestling today.
Triple H was asked about the future after the Mae Young Classic is over. Specifically, he was asked if there will be a weekly show dedicated to women after the tournament concludes.
We saw this happen with the Cruiserweight Classic. After the tournament was finished, WWE created 205 Live. There also seemed to be plans for a weekly UK show after the WWE UK Championship tournament, but that hasn’t happened. Here is what Triple H said about an all-women’s brand in WWE:
“Never say never; you could end up there. We’re experimenting with a lot of different things as far as programming”
While he keeps the door open, it seems more likely that the tournament participants will be used to help add to the current rosters of WWE:
“But the women are a lot different. With the women, you hopefully have opportunities for a lot of these women to beef up the roster on RAW, Smackdown, NXT, and while it’s still a work in progress, we have the intention to be in the United Kingdom as well. We want the women to have the same opportunity as the men to be everywhere. You don’t need a separate show, as long as opportunities are everywhere. It makes it feel like less than for them.”
