This week’s episode of Smackdown Live ended on a cliffhanger. Roman Reigns was attacked backstage before he announced his opponent at Summerslam.
I wanted to pass along my theory on who I think attacked Roman and who will also face him at Summerslam.
The popular theory is likely Samoa Joe since he has been beefing with Roman for the past few weeks. I actually don’t think that it will be Joe. I think that it will be something fresh.
My gut says that it was Buddy Murphy who attacked Roman backstage. This might seem a bit random but hear me out.
Buddy hasn’t appeared on Smackdown Live much since being called up from 205 Live. It would make sense (in kayfabe) for Buddy to take matters into his own hands to try and get on the show. There isn’t a better way to leave your mark than to attack a top guy like Roman Reigns. He is arguably the number one guy in the company and doesn’t have a clear match at Summerslam. My theory is that Buddy took matters into his own hands and went after the Big Dog to get on the Summerslam card.
Listen, I know that Roman Reigns is going to beat Buddy or likely anyone else he faces at Summerslam. The key thing here is for Buddy to get a major rub from working with someone of the stature of Roman. If Buddy is able to put on a hell of a match against Roman, it doesn’t matter if he wins or loses. The key thing here is to showcase Buddy’s ability to fans, which hopefully helps launch his career.
I would much rather Buddy vs Roman than something that we have already seen before (like Roman vs Samoa Joe or Roman vs Drew McIntyre).
