Kevin Owens lost his match against Seth Rollins this week on RAW for the Intercontinental Championship. After the match, Owens got on the microphone and announced that he quits. WWE moved Owens to the alumni section of their website and Owens’ Twitter account has been blacked out.
So what is this all leading to? We have a theory.
The theory has to do with Braun Strowman giving the Money in the Bank contract to Baron Corbin. It was made clear on RAW that Braun is cashing-in (in advance) to face Roman Reigns in a Hell in a Cell match. The key part here is that Braun has handed the contract over to Corbin, and it is now in his possession. The theory would be that Corbin will end up giving the briefcase to Kevin Owens. Owens will cash-in at Hell in a Cell to walk out as the new WWE Universal Champion.
I think that this would be a pretty interesting route to go. One of the biggest questions that I have about Reigns vs Strowman is who the hell is going to lose here? I don’t think that WWE wants Strowman to join the list of people who have failed cash-ins. I also don’t think that WWE will have Strowman defeat Reigns (just yet). As a result, Owens cashing in after Strowman and Reigns beat the hell out of one another could be an interesting finish. This way Strowman doesn’t technically fail his cash-in and it keeps either Reigns and Strowman from pinning one another.
I have a weird feeling that Corbin now being in possession of the briefcase could lead to a swerve here. This could even turn out to be a well-orchestrated plan from Stephanie McMahon since Corbin directly works for her. Maybe this starts us on the path towards Braun Strowman vs Triple H at Wrestlemania 35? This was a match that was teased after Survivor Series last year. Triple H has also been aligned with Kevin Owens in the past, as he helped Owens win the Universal Championship a few years ago.
Obviously, this is just a fun theory so don’t take it as if this is definitely happening. It would certainly be an interesting storyline twist. The easy guess is that Owens’ firing is just for WWE to keep him off TV for a couple of weeks.
