WWE made a big change to the set design for the Hall Of Fame ceremony this year. The podium was moved from the stage into a ring, which had never been done before.
So why did WWE change things up?
According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, this was done to make things easier on the production crew. Here is what he said (h/t to Ringside News for the quotes below) :
“It’s not that they were too lazy, here’s what happened. The Hall Of Fame was on Saturday. Traditionally for the last couple of years it’s been on Friday so they set up the building for the Hall Of Fame on Friday, break it down, set up for NXT. The building would sit there on Sunday when everyone was at WrestleMania and the building would sit for RAW and SmackDown.”
This year because of Ring Of Honor they flipped the coin so that means they would have needed to set up for NXT, break it all down, set up for the Hall Of Fame, break it all down, get it ready for RAW and get it ready for SmackDown. So that is why they went with the wrestling ring and they didn’t do the big stage and production and all that. They were trying to make it easier on the production team.”
