Michael Cole will be announcing the WWE Evolution PPV event on Sunday night. He will be joined by Renee Young and Beth Phoenix on the commentary team. There have been some fans asking why Cole is involved in the all-women’s PPV event.
Mike Johnson on PWInsider Elite Audio provided the answer. Here is what he said (quote below via Ringside News):
“I asked about this and I found out this is why. The feeling was Renee is a good announcer, Beth [Phoenix] is a good announcer… they didn’t want to put either of them in a position to do play-by-play and have them not look strong.”
“It basically came down to the decision of Michael Cole or Mauro [Ranallo] and the decision was made to have Michael Cole call the show. So Michael Cole is going to be the play-by-play guy and Beth and Renee are going to do color. So that’s the plan there, that’s why Michael Cole is calling the show.”
Renee Young also had a great comment on Cole participating in the event:
Yeah, just because it’s an all women’s PPV doesn’t mean we’re banning the men. We’re all celebrating the women’s achievements. And there have been men that have been a big help in the achievements that all of the women have made too. It’s a team effort. Equality = everyone😉
