Becky Lynch vs Ronda Rousey was originally supposed to happen at Survivor Series a few months ago. After Becky was injured at the hands of Nia Jax, she was forced out of the match.
Charlotte Flair ended up facing Ronda instead. This was a fun match that saw Charlotte put a vicious beating on Ronda with a kendo stick and other weapons.
So what were the original plans if Becky vs Ronda did happen?
On the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio (subscribe here), Dave Meltzer says the finish that we saw between Charlotte and Ronda was originally designed for Becky. Here is a quote (via Ringside News):
“By the way, that finish at Survivor Series the Ronda Rousey/ Charlotte Flair finish where Charlotte whacked her with a cane and all that. That was the Becky Lynch finish.
Ronda Rousey was not going to submit Becky Lynch in that match. Becky Lynch was gonna beat the hell out of her with a kendo stick and get DQ’ed. So that’s where that came from.”
My Take: Things have worked out pretty well for Becky. She is now scheduled to face Ronda at Wrestlemania, in what could be the main event of the show. My gut says that we would be getting Ronda vs Charlotte at Wrestlemania if that injury didn’t happen.
