The Next Potential Shot From WWE In The Wednesday Night War

News broke a few weeks ago that NXT was moving to the USA Network and will also be extending to two hours. This will put it directly against AEW on Wednesday night’s.

It is looking like the next big shot from WWE could come with the NXT Takeover schedule in 2020.

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscribe here), Dave Meltzer speculated that WWE could be planning to put NXT Takeover specials directly against AEW PPV’s. Here is what he wrote:

Right now the plan is for Takeovers not to be the same weekend as the big shows and WWE has said that the new Takeover schedule will be out soon. It will be interesting to see if Vince follows his late 1980s playbook and puts the Takeover shows on the network to go head-to-head with AEW PPVs, that come with a $50 price tag.

My Take: This would make a ton of sense since WWE just announced that there won’t be a Takeover on Royal Rumble weekend. The only thing I can think of to explain that is WWE is planning to counter program AEW PPV events on Saturday night’s. This is obviously just speculation so take with a grain of salt for now.
