Back in 2018, a 10-year partnership between WWE and the Saudi General Sports Authority was announced. Since then, we have seen three WWE PPV events in the country: ‘The Greatest Royal Rumble’, ‘Crown Jewel’, and ‘Super Showdown’.
We have some news to pass your way about the next PPV event in the country, which will be taking place later this year.
According to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscribe here), the event has been moved back to November 1st. Here is what he wrote:
The Saudi Arabia show is back to its original date on 11/1 in Riyadh at King Saud University Stadium. So they ended up canceling a number of European dates including the entire Italy tour, several U.K. shows, and rearranging television to where they were taping Raw and Smackdown now on the same night on a Friday meaning Raw was taped ahead because the Saudis wanted the show on a different date. And now it’s back to the old date.
That means there will be a PPV in Saudi Arabia on Friday afternoon (for those in EST like me). Later that night, Smackdown will be airing on FOX, since the show is moving to Friday nights starting in October.
Meltzer noted that WWE could do an all-women’s version of Smackdown that night to offset the shows. That was just an idea from him though and nothing that is set in stone.
