The 24/7 Title Was Reportedly Not Vince McMahon’s Idea, More On Why It Was Created

Mick Foley unveiled the new 24/7 Championship this week on Monday Night RAW. The belt has to be defended 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscribe here), Dave Meltzer reports that the 24/7 Championship was NOT Vince McMahon’s idea.

According to Meltzer, the USA Network has been complaining to WWE for some time now about the drop in ratings for the third hour of RAW.

These complaints reportedly led to the creation of this belt. Here is an excerpt from Meltzer:

“USA Network of late was sending in all kinds of ideas to WWE to bring up the third hour ratings. One person with knowledge of the story said the ideas were all terrible, but the 24/7 idea was the best one and McMahon knew he had to take one of them”
