This week’s episode of Smackdown Live had an interesting ending. Vince McMahon was talking to AJ Styles backstage. Vince told him that he wants to see the ‘real’ version of Styles and wants him to unleash his ‘inner animal’.
Vince slapped Styles. This led to Styles knocking down the WWE Chairman with a punch to close the show.
So where is this storyline going? Let’s speculate a little bit here.
The most popular speculation that I have seen from fans is that we are getting a heel turn from Styles. Styles has been a babyface on Smackdown for a while now. After losing the WWE Championship, this would be something fresh for him moving forward. While I do think the heel turn is happening, I think that it will go even further.
My guess is that WWE is going to put ‘the Club’ back together. That would be Styles, Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson becoming a faction again. Styles was a great heel with them when he first came into WWE. I think that it would make sense to put them back together and see what happens. WWE has been building up Anderson and Gallows over the past few weeks, so there seems to be some legs to a potential Club reunion.
My gut says that we are getting 2016 AJ Styles back, along with the Club. This was my favorite version of AJ’s character so I am excited to see what happens. He was great as a cocky heel and there is no doubt in my mind he could excel at it again.
This is obviously great news for Styles too. Anytime that you are in a storyline with Vince, it is a big deal. It will be interesting to see where this goes. I am going to predict Styles wins the Royal Rumble and challenges Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship at Wrestlemania 35. AJ could be a good fit on RAW. Anderson and Gallows would also help out the RAW tag team division.
