News broke earlier this week that Rey Mysterio has signed with WWE. According to PWInsider, Rey has signed a 2-year deal with the company and they are waiting to bring him into storylines.
Now the question becomes, how will WWE choose to bring Rey back to television? Let’s speculate a little bit.
To start, I think that Rey is a lock to join the Smackdown roster. The blue brand is in desperate need of babyfaces at the moment. There is really only AJ Styles, Daniel Bryan and Jeff Hardy at the top of the card. Rey would be a great fit to help out the babyface side of things on Smackdown.
So how will WWE bring him back to Smackdown?
My theory is that we are going to see Shinsuke Nakamura host an open challenge for the United States Championship. Rey will end up answering it for a nice surprise and pop from the crowd. This could happen at WWE Super Show-Down or on an episode of Smackdown Live. Nakamura vs Rey sounds like a fun feud for the next several weeks.
Hopefully, WWE goes that route instead of just announcing vignettes for his return. My hope is WWE saves it for Super Show-Down. I think that it could be a fun moment for the Australian crowd.
