WWE made the interesting decision to announce both #30 entries into the Royal Rumble matches in 2019. The winners of the Mixed Match Challenge will get the final spot in the Men’s and Women’s Rumble matches. Jinder Mahal and Alicia Fox will be facing off against R-Truth and Carmella in the finals.
Could WWE be setting us up for a swerve?
Dave Meltzer had some interesting comments on Wrestling Observer Radio this week. He wondered if WWE announcing this in advance could lead to a big surprise at the Rumble.
Here is what Meltzer said (via Ringside News):
“I smell a swerve in that number 30 men’s spot. They have
to, because I can’t imagine they’re gonna do the whole Royal Rumble and everyone knows R-Truth is coming out at number 30. Or you know, who’s the other choice? Jinder. It ain’t gonna be him. Whichever one, I think we’re gonna get a big surprise. I don’t know who it’s gonna be but I can’t imagine — I could be dead wrong — but I can’t imagine doing a whole Royal Rumble and then number 30 [be either Mahal or Truth].”
This is obviously just speculation and should be taken as just that. Still, I had similar thoughts about the situation. What if WWE booked it so the #30 guy gets attacked prior to entering the Royal Rumble match?
It could make for a major surprise, especially if WWE used it to debut a new Superstar in that spot. Nothing against R-Truth and Jinder but them being the #30 spot with no swerve would kind of suck.
