Shinsuke Nakamura has taken NXT by storm since his arrival at NXT Takeover Dallas. He has put on some incredible matches, including a match of the year candidate against Sami Zayn. He is currently the NXT Champion and will defend the belt against Samoa Joe at NXT Takeover Toronto.
Many wrestling fans are wondering when Nakamura will be called up to the WWE main roster. He is considered one of the best wrestlers in the entire world and some think that he is being wasted by sticking around in NXT when he could be on the big stage.
According to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscription required but recommended) there are currently NO plans for Nakamura to be promoted anytime soon. WWE wants to keep him as the star attraction of the NXT brand for the time being.

Interesting tidbit of information. I think many wrestling fans will be disappointed by this as they want to see him every week on RAW or Smackdown. It is good in a way that they aren’t just throwing him out there and when he does make his debut, it will mean something.
This also indicates to me that he will likely defeat Samoa Joe at Takeover and retain the title. This would free up Joe to come up to the main roster. WWE likes to take their time with some of their NXT talent, we saw it with Finn Balor, who stayed in NXT probably longer than he should have.
Let us know what you think in the comment section below. Are you okay with Nakamura staying in NXT for the time being?
I kind of figured he’d be in NXT for a while honestly considering he’s NXT Champion and NXT needs a big draw like Nakamura because even though I’m enjoying NXT the draft I think really effected NXT a lot so I think he will be called up by the Summer or Fall of next year.
it’s a bit of a double-edged sword… they’ve managed tocreate this larger than life character
NXT is “developmental” … Nakamura doesnt need to develop. He is easily top 3 wrestlers in the world. He’s up there in age so he needs to jump to the big leagues now. Not later.
