Shinsuke Nakamura is considered one of the best wrestlers in the world today. He has taken NXT by storm ever since he made his debut at NXT Takeover Dallas in a match of the year candidate against Sami Zayn. The ‘King Of Strong Style’ will be taking on Samoa Joe at NXT Takeover Brooklyn 2, in what should be another great match. Nakamura was recently on an episode of Talk is Jericho where he spoke on a wide variety of topics. One of these included a bit of criticism towards today’s wrestling style.
A lot of wrestlers today focus on high flying moves (spots in wrestling lingo) to wow the crowd in their matches. Nakamura says that wrestlers should try and focus less on moves and more on their interactions before and after those moves.
Here is what he said from the podcast:
“A lot of young guys want to do a lot of stuff…..Moves, moves, moves. I always teach young guys: Hey, moves are not important, the important thing is in between the moves. How do you walk, how do you look at the audience” (Source: Talk Is Jericho).

I personally agree with him. I love watching all of the amazing high spots that guys do and I am always wowed. But If the option was to watch someone do a crazy flip or watch a Shinsuke Nakamura match that tells a story, I am choosing the Nakamura match 10 times out of 10.

It sometimes feels like some young wrestlers focus on hitting that cool move that blows up online rather than working on engaging the crowd. Let us know what you think in the comment section below!
