Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful has provided several tidbits from backstage at the WWE Super Showdown event in Saudi Arabia.
— According to Sapp, Vince McMahon was backstage at the show. He says that “the company and Vince see it as a way for McMahon to show those in charge of the deal that it’s a high priority for them”.
— One of Goldberg’s conditions for working the event was for his wife and son to be flown to Saudi Arabia with him. Both his wife and son were in attendance at the event.
— Several wrestlers were reportedly surprised that the Undertaker vs Goldberg lasted as long as it did. Many were predicting that it would only last 4 or 5 minutes at most.
— The decision to not do the Women’s match (Alexa Bliss vs Natalya) came down to the wire.
— A big issue for the show was the heat and working conditions. There was “hydration salt” drinks being passed out backstage to help prevent dehydration. These drinks are said to have been terrible tasting. According to Sapp, many described the conditions as “miserable and borderline unworkable” at the event.
