Roman Reigns defeated Kevin Owens in a non-title match on RAW this past week to earn himself a WWE Universal Championship chance at WWE Roadblock: End Of The Line. Owens and Reigns have been feuding for the past few weeks and they will settle their differences on December 18th.
Below are some rumors that are circulating about the current feud between Reigns/ Owens and what might happen at Roadblock. Reminder: these are rumors and are to be taken with a grain of salt.
According to Dave Meltzer on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, the original plan for RAW was to have the Owens and Reigns match be for the WWE United States Championship. This was changed at last second to be a non-title match but with the stipulation that if Reigns wins, he would get a WWE Universal Championship opportunity. Either way, Reigns was winning to set up the rematch at Roadblock with the Universal Championship on the line.
The biggest question is why the Universal Title is on the line but not Reigns’ U.S Title (like Cena vs Rollins last year in a title vs title match). The rumor circulating is that WWE wants Reigns to win the title and hold two belts at once. This would be a blatant mimic of Conor McGregor and what he recently did at UFC 205 where he won the Lightweight Championship against Eddie Alvarez. We have seen WWE mimic UFC, as recently as Survivor Series where announcers were told to call the Brock Lesnar vs Goldberg match as a legitimate fight.

You are probably wondering why exactly Reigns’ United States title isn’t going to be on the line. When Conor McGregor challenged Alvarez it was for the Lightweight Championship only, with McGregor’s original UFC Featherweight belt not on the line in the fight. If the rumors are true, WWE is trying to emulate that exact same situation where Reigns walks away with two belts.
Things can change in WWE and remember these are to be treated as rumors. Let us know what you think in the comment section below.
They have had dual champions before. I dont see this as a rip off of UFC
but never have they done a dual champion after a dual champion was crowned in another organization let alone a completely different sport
Yay!
So for that stupid reason they would give the title to Roman, again. But no chance in hell Cesaro would hold the Universal title, not even for a day. Also, doing that they pretty much fuck the whole roster in Raw =/ (midcard and ME)
