According to Mike Johnson on PWInsider Elite Audio, there was a strong consideration for Samoa Joe to walk out with the WWE Championship at Summerslam. Here is a quote (via WrestlingNews.co):
“There was a consideration to Joe winning the belt but that is not the final finish that they went with,”

The Plans For The Bludgeon Brothers Prior To Rowan’s Injury
Johnson also noted that the Bludgeon Brothers were not planned to drop the Titles to the New Day. There was apparently a larger role planned for the team prior to Rowan’s injury. Here is a quote (via Ringside News):
“They were not supposed to switch the tag belts this week.
I was told that there was a larger role planned for The Bludgeon Brothers coming out of the pay-per-view. I don’t know what it was but the injury is why they did the tag title switch.”
